Gran Migjornale

The birth of the project GRAN MIGJORNALE was purely by chance. On a day that was holding “Dimarts a Es Migjorn”, a popular market held on Tuesday evenings in the streets of the village during the summer months, the artist Adolf Llovera, had a casual conversation with the councillor Elena Baquero. There he suggested the idea of holding a similar market, but dedicated only to art. The proposal wasn´t abandoned and they mentioned it to Jaron Rowan, a Cultural Producer and son of resident artists. He then came up with the idea of using the local houses of the Migjorners, as venues for exhibiting work. Following this, the councillor, together with the local restaurant owner, Josep Lluis Moll Jover, started looking for and organising possible houses to be used for exhibitions. Finally, the internationally known artist, Bruce Mclean, came up with the name of Migjornale or Gran Migjornale, playing with the name Biennale. From the very beginning, the artists didn´t want the event to be political, and decided to form the association “Amics de L´Art de´Es Migjorn Gran”. The first event, which was held in 2006, exceeded all expectations and the number of exhibitors and visitors grew from then onwards, turning it into a cultural event of relevance. Similar versions have later been held elsewhere on the island. This year it celebrates its 10 th anniversary
