This summit is situated at 3,5 kilometres form the village and it is the geographic centre of Menorca, on the top of which you can see Santuari de la Verge del Toro, patron saint of the island, from where you have an excellent panoramic view over Menorca. This sea inlet is characterized by the huge size, it is u-shaped, at the rear there is a system of dunes with fixing vegetation (scrubland and bushes) and a wetland irrigated by a torrent. The beach has dark pebbles, moderate swell, gentle breeze, an orientation toward northeast, and it is the largest and has the best accessibility of this Àrea Natural d'Especial Interès and it is nearly virgin. The accessibility by car is easy following the signs. The last two kilometres have to be done on a minor track. The private car can be left on a free parking area in the surroundings. The Town Hall is built over the ancient Moorish citadel and remains of it can still be seen today.
Punta Nati lighthouse, erected in a very arid and captivating landscape, is located in the north-western corner of the island, only 6 km away from Ciutadella. Punta Nati is yet one more example of how diverse the landscapes are here on the island. The narrow road leading up to the lighthouse has a cycle path and is flanked on either side by dry stone walls, locally known as ‘paret seca’. This is a place to visit whether your interest is in history or on the lookout for unspoiled views. It is a great place to watch the sunset and for star gazing at night time. The neighbouring island Majorca can be seen from here in the distance. The headland at Punta Nati suffers more severe weather conditions than elsewhere on the island: The sea currents are strong here. The area is buffeted by the northern Tramontana winds and by a series of dramatic ‘bufadors’. Bufadors are caves and cracks in the cliffs that are connected to the sea; in stormy weather, waves surge up through the cracks and caves, pushing roaring columns of water up through the bufadors. The lighthouse was built in 1912, after numerous shipwrecks in the early 20th century, in particular the French steamer ‘Général Chanzy’. The lighthouse was inaugurated on 1st September 1913 where it stands today, 11.5 m high, shining a beacon visible 26 nautical miles away. The countryside surrounding Punta Nati is stark and arid, overlooking steep cliffs.
Located in the back of the rear of the City of Ciutadella de Menorca and occupying one and the terraces of the old fort, this viewpoint is directly above the walls built in the seventeenth century, which were reduced by the end of the last century to appreciate the magnificent views that can be seen from the place. From this location you can see spectacular views of the port of Ciutadella de Menorca, reaching a length of one kilometer and has a maximum width of 50 meters at the mouth ..
Trebalúger or Cala Trebalúger is situated at seven kilometres from es Migjorn Gran, located between Platja de Sant Tomàs and Morro de Llevant. It belongs to the Àrea Natural d'Especial Interès which goes from Cala Mitjana to Binigaus. This coastal stretch is the natural border between the municipalities of Ferreries and es Migjorn Gran, the coast has cliffs that rise up to 40 metres, with sea inlets that are the origin of beautiful coves. This virgin beach is the result of a u-shaped sea inlet and it is the end of a canyon and a torrent with the same name. It is quite small, the sand is fine-grained and white, with calm crystal clear water, and it is exposed to the wind from the southeast-south-southwest. It is not very crowded by local visitors and tourists. It is surrounded by a thick pine wood that reaches the coastline, and you can reach this cove on foot or on the seaway. The marine and underwater conditions for anchoring boats are excellent also to stay overnight, if the wind is not blowing from the south, because it makes the swell grow, due to the fact that this bay is very open. The entrance is two hectometres large and gets quite narrow toward the interior. It is also very popular amongst people who like diving and nudism. The accessibility by car is easy until Cala Mitjana. From here you will have to walk for 40 minutes to reach the beach. Information about this beach may change. The S’Algar residential estate is one of the most relevant tourist centres of the island. It is located on an outlet along the south coast of the island. The presence of sand over its rocky coastline has allowed it to be enjoyed for sunbathing and swimming in its crystal waters by the construction of concrete platforms packed with hammocks(eighty metres long and twenty metres wide). This area is set aside a promenade lined with palm trees. We can make an excursion from S’Algar to the next door cove of Rafalet; one of Nature’s gems where an exceptionally beautiful gorge runs out. S’Algar outstands for the many nautical sports to be practised along its coast, as well as its sports grounds and the complete structure of tourist attractions. In order to reach S’Algar, we must get to Sant Lluis and after crossing the town we will find a roundabout called Sa Pau, where we will see the indications leading to the south coast beaches.
After visiting this site many times over the years more and more has been excavated showing in a better way how this site looked when it was inhabited by its last people to live there , it appears it has had quite a few different cultures living there over time adapting the site for there needs , the Taula precinct is of much interest as the slabs of stone visible inside are huge , the sign described this back in the 90s as being the work of giants that were later wiped out in the great flood well looking at the size of stones cut moved and put into place that theory is very believable, it all appears it’s from way back in antiquity than stated , very interesting site , which I always visit and will continue to .
Arenal de s'Olla de Son Saura, Arenal de Son Saura, Arenal de s'Olla or Platja de Son Parc (original name) is situated next to the village Son Parc, located between Cap Gros and na Tortuga, aswell as at 14 kilometres from es Mercadal and 15 from Alaior. This sea inlet is characterized by having a quite big size, the beachis sandy, there is a system of dunes with fixing vegetation (pine trees, bushes and scrubland), low cliffs with natural breakwaters, the orientation is toward north, a gentle breeze, a moderate swell, sea currents, a gentle slope, transparent water, and it is a semiurban beach (on the right side there are apartments and on the left side there is a restaurant). The marine and underwater conditions for anchoring boats are not safe, it is a bad shelter if the weather is not good. There are some stones on both sides of the natural entrance. If the navigator wishes to anchor in the surroundings, he should continue toward the nearby Cala Pudent (for small boats). The accessibility by car is easy following the signs. The last part is in bad conditions. The drivers are recommended not to drive through the dunes to park the car near the water. The private car can be left on a free parking area in the surroundings. Cales Coves, Calescoves or Calacoves is situated at 10 kilometres from Alaior, located between morros de Ponent and de Llevant, as well as next to the villages Cala en Porter and Son Vitamina, and to the village Lloc Nou. A sinuous sea inlet has formed these two spectacular bays, which are isolated, virgin, quiet and quite small as well, one has an orientation toward northeast and the other one toward northwest. This coastal corner is characterized by being located between high and steep vertical cliffs, which were used by the first inhabitants of Menorca as necropolis (9th-7th century BC), as you can see in the 90 excavated coves in these rocks, which gave the name to this place. Another characteristic of this beach is the rocky surface and the low influx of visitors, because it is quite narrow and therefore uncomfortable. The marine and underwater conditions for anchoring boats are excellent, and it is one of the best shelters in the summer for the boats that navigate around the south coast of Menorca, if there is no wind blowing from south-southwest. The ground is sandy in the centre and rocky on the sides, deep and clean, although there is not much place. If the navigator wants to anchor, he is recommended to do so in the north-eastern cove. The accessibility by car is easy following the signs and the deviations. The last part has to be done on a track in bad conditions. The private car can be left on a free parking area in the surroundings. When the beach has a lifeguard service, you must follow the lifeguards' instructions and the warnings on flags. A red flag indicates dangerous swimming conditions and means that swimming is not permitted. A yellow flag indicates that precaution must be taken, but that swimming is permitted.
