The collections Hernández Sanz - Hernández Mora are exhibited since 2015 in the historic building of Ca n'Oliver, the magnificent Oliver’s family house, exponents of the bourgeoisie of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries in Mahón. This property stands out for its interior decorations in the ceilings realized by Italian painters, its imperial staircase that becomes a symbol and the tower. Among the contents of the exhibition we find the Oliver’s family history, a review of the British Menorca, the importance of the port of Mahón, historical cartography of the island, how was life in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries in Menorca and the enormous artistic legacy of the Hernández. There is also a printmaking section by the Insular Council of contemporary Menorcan artists or related to the island. The center also consists of a temporary exposition hall and an auditorium. The Hernández Sanz-Hernández Mora collections are made up of graphic work, furniture, decorative arts and an extensive library of menorcan origin. They were donated by the teacher Joan Hernández Mora in 1983 and by Javier Hernández Montesinos in 1999. With the donation made by the latter, who was the grandson of Francesc Hernández Sanz and nephew of the former, the great family collection, which was initially started by Hernández Sanz, was once again reunited. In 2005, the artistic work of Francesc Hernández Mora was also added with a donation by Antoni Seguí Parpal. • TIMETABLE Sumer ( 1 of May to 30 of October) Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday: 10:00 to 13:30h and 18:00 to 20:00h Sunday: 10:00h to 13:30h Monday: Closed Winter ( 1 of November to 30 of april) Thursday, Friday, Saturday: 10:00 to 13:30h and 18:00 to 20:00h Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday: 10:00h to 13:30h Monday: Closed
The Minorca Museum is actually the old Franciscan Convent. Its origins date back to the 17th and 18th centuries. The old convent has been variously used as a nautical school, public library, high school and children's home but since 1989, it has housed the museum which traces the evolution and history of Minorcan customs. Cala Pudent is situated at 11 kilometres from Fornells (located in front of the spectacular natural port which continues for four kilometres toward the interior) and one toward Mola de Fornells, located between na Tortuga and es Niu des Xiprès. The name is given by the bad smell from the mud which is characteristic for this coastal stretch. The beach is quite small (50 metres long) and it is the result of a narrow and deep sea inlet. This entrance is divided into two parts, with two very small sheltered coves. This coastal area is only appreciated by the fishers and is not for swimming. The marine and underwater conditions for anchoring small boats are excellent. This coastal stretch is a good port for boats, although the wind blows from the northwest and east. The navigator is recommended to anchor in the north-western area of this cove, in front of the beach. You can also do this manoeuvre at the end of the cove or next to the place called es Varador d'en Xeca. The accessibility by car is easy until the nearby Arenal de Son Saura following the signs and the deviations. The last part is in bad conditions. You are recommended to avoid driving through the dunes to park your private car near the water. From Son Saura you have to follow the coast to reach Cala Pudent. When the beach has a lifeguard service, you must follow the lifeguards? instructions and the warnings on flags. A red flag indicates dangerous swimming conditions and means that swimming is not permitted. A yellow flag indicates that precaution must be taken, but that swimming is permitted. A green flag indicates that swimming is permitted. An orange flag is used to indicate that the lifeguard is absent. Act cautiously when no lifeguard is present or the service is not available and enjoy the beach without taking any unnecessary risks.
Cala Fustam is situated at eight kilometres, located between Punta de sa Mioca and Sant Antoni. It belongs to Àrea Natural d'Especial Interès which goes from Cala Mithana to Binigaus. This coastal stretch belongs to the municipality of es Migjorn Gran and it has cliffs that rise up to 40 metres above the sea level, with sea inlets that are the origin of isolated, virgin and beautiful coves. This beach is the result of a round sea inlet and it is characterized by the very small size, it is surrounded by quite high rocks, with thick pine woods on the top that reach the coastline, it has fine-grained white sand and it is exposed to the winds from the southeast-south-southwest, a gentle breeze, quiet crystal clear water, and it is not very crowded by local visitors and tourists. The marine and underwater conditions for anchoring boats are excellent if the wind is not blowing from the south because it makes the swell grow, due to the fact that this bay is very open. The accessibility by car is easy following the signs until Cala Mitjana. From here you will have to walk for 40 minutes to reach Cala Trebalúger. Then you have to walk another 40 minutes until you reach Cala Fustam. If you continue on the same track you will find the adjacent Cala Escorxada. Getting there on the seaway is also usual.
