Cala Sant Esteve

Cala Sant Esteve is situated at 2,5 kilometres from Es Castell de Menorca, surrounded by the Port Malborough (built by the English between 1710 and 1716) and Castell de Sant Felip (very important in the 18th century for the defence of the Port de Maó), as well as located between Torre d'en Penjat (at 150 metres above the sea level, with conic structure, a tower of three levels and beautiful panoramic views) and Punta de Sant Carles, where there is Far de Maó and the access to the port with the same name. It is a big s-shaped sea inlet which goes toward west for a long distance, is the origin of this bathing area with no sand or rocks, with a steep slope (very near the coast it is already deep). There are lots of summer residences in the surroundings, as well as a large number of small boats anchored along the sinuous coastline. This bathing area has an orientation toward northeast and the wind is moderate, so that the swell is strong. Nevertheless the beach is not too crowded by local visitors and tourists. The marine and underwater conditions for anchoring boats are good, although the manoeuvre is difficult due to the large number of boats anchored in the interior. The navigator must know that in the southern area and in the entrance there is a flagstone, known as Llosa de sa Punta de Migjorn. In the surroundings there are lots of fishers. When the beach has a lifeguard service, you must follow the lifeguards' instructions and the warnings on flags. A red flag indicates dangerous swimming conditions and means that swimming is not permitted. A yellow flag indicates that precaution must be taken, but that swimming is permitted. A green flag indicates that swimming is permitted. An orange flag is used to indicate that the lifeguard is absent. Act cautiously when no lifeguard is present or the service is not available and enjoy the beach without taking any unnecessary risks. For health and safety reasons, the municipal ordinances ban pets on beaches. Information about this beach may change.
