Cala des Tamarells

Cala or Platja de Tamarells is situated at 10 kilometres from Maó, located between Punta de sa Pastera and es Colomar, where there is the defence tower with the same name, and in front of its coast you can see s'Illa de Colom. It belongs to the Àrea Natural d'Especial Interès de s'Albufera es Grau (70 hectares in area, and an average depth of 1,5 metres, very rich landscape with many species of flora and fauna, so that the Unesco declared Menorca Reserve of the Biosphere in 1993. This virgin beach is the result of a sea inlet which is the origin of a bay with steep and abrupt coast. There you can find a beach with golden sand, 70 metres long and surrounded by the sides of the hills of s'Albufera des Grau, which have a green cover. S'Illa de Colom is situated from north to south and the highest point is located at 44 metres above the sea level. The eastern coast has high cliffs, whereas the western coast is lower until it touches the Mediterranean Sea. This island is quite difficult and dangerous to navigate around. The accessibility by car is easy following the signs and the deviations until Cala des Grau. The private car can be left on a free parking area in the surroundings. from es Grau you have to follow a track along the coast, passing Ensenada des Patró Llorenç, which leads to Cala Tamarells.
