Located in the back of the rear of the City of Ciutadella de Menorca and occupying one and the terraces of the old fort, this viewpoint is directly above the walls built in the seventeenth century, which were reduced by the end of the last century to appreciate the magnificent views that can be seen from the place. From this location you can see spectacular views of the port of Ciutadella de Menorca, reaching a length of one kilometer and has a maximum width of 50 meters at the mouth ..
The old quarries are fascinating by themselves, the scale of the more modern one from the last century cut by machine is impressive - but the smaller medieval ones linked by paths are even more so, especially now they have been transformed into individual botanical gardens by Menorca’s horticultural society. Such a glorious and magical place - wandering in amongst them and discovering them and their amazing trees, fauna and floral displays was a real surprise and a wonderful thing to do. Well done to Menorca for creating such a beautiful historic monument to the thousands of workers who carved Menorca’s beautiful buildings by hand out of the limestone which makes Menorcas architecture so special.
Sa Cova des Coloms is a natural open grotto on the eastern face of the ravine known as Es Barranc de Binigaus. The cave's ceiling reaches a maximum of 24 metres of height and measures 110 metres long and 15 metres high on average - an enormous natural cathedral. This cathedral-like cave is named after wood pigeons, since Menorcans have been using it to hunt these unusual birds from time immemorial. Large populations of bats, along with the mosses and lichens that blanket the walls, give the grotto its mysterious appearance. A votive object from prehistoric times was discovered on the spot, as was a bull's horn, a totemic symbol that recalls the role cows played in the cult of fertility in antiquity. It is no surprise that Menorca's first settlers chose this natural cavity in prehistoric times as a place to worship tectonic energies, the Earth's underground forces, the maximum exponent of which were caves. The cavern was doubly symbolic, a metaphor for the fecundity of the maternal uterus and the journey to the beyond. Legend has it that one's fate is mysteriously triggered when one enters Sa Cova d'es Coloms. If two people enter at the same time, they will soon be separated from each other, yet, on the contrary, if fortune reunites two people who have never met inside, they will never be separated. Almost anything can be believed about Sa Cova d'es Coloms, e.g., that the sun's rays penetrate straight to the grotto's depths during the spring solstice, that it was Calypso the nymph's mythical cave, where Ulysses yearned for his distant Ithaca, that it was the dwelling of giants... this place's imagination and characteristics admit each and every hypothesis. How to get there: Take the road from Es Migjorn Gran to San Adeodato Beach. At the end of the road stands Es Pou d'es Captiu. Take the path around it to the right ' when facing the sea ' to reach the mouth of D'es Barranc de Binigaus Vell. Enter the ravine and after passing by a well, the valley gradually opens up before our eyes. Keeping to the left, the path ascends to the white silhouette of the dwelling at Binigaus. Just a few more steps lead us to the cave. We recommend consulting a Tourist Information Office about availability.
On the 7th of October 1993, the island of Minorca was declared a Biosphere Reserve by the International Committee of UNESCO. S'Albufera des Grau Nature Park is located in the northeastern part of the island of Menorca. It encompasses a broad expanse of characteristic, well-conserved land and includes two wetlands ('S'Albufera des Grau' and 'Es Prat de Morella'), wide swaths of shoreline, an islet and a number of farms which use traditional farming practices. Albufera des Grau, a 2-km-long, oval-shaped lagoon, is Menorca's largest wetland, one of the most important in the Balearic Islands and the nucleus of the Biosphere Reserve. It is located next to the village of Grau and its beach, and lies on a Palaeozoic basin into which three torrents empty and which is separated from the sea by a series of dunes On the 7th of October 1993, the island of Minorca was declared a Biosphere Reserve by the International Committee of UNESCO, because of its environmental diversity and landscapes, with natural spaces of special relevance, such as the Natural Park of s'Albufera des Grau. There are two ways to reach the park: PMV-7102 (es Grau) and PM-715 (cabo de Favàritx) both in the Maó municipal area.
Punta Nati Cape is located further northwest of the island located in the town of Ciutadella, Menorca this area is characterized by rocky and barren landscape, impressive precisely because of its hardness. The alacraneras bland, small succulents are the only representatives of the plant world that survive in this desert-like landscape. Thus, finding a place for swimming in this area is difficult, because the coast is the most rugged and rocky. About the impressive cliffs, a few tens of meters high, stands the lighthouse at Punta Nati, also known as Lamp Nova, built by the French in 1913 after the fatal wreck on the cliffs of one of his ships, the "General Chanzy "covering the journey Marseille-Algiers that killed more than 200 people. The lighthouse, which was inhabited until the second half of the twentieth century, has a white tower, a dome and aluminum flashlight. Also has large housing units for the old lighthouse keeper and a courtyard surrounded by a stone wall. To the right of the lighthouse are the remains of an observatory and a battery built during the civil war.
The city's first large public space, it has modified its appearance on numerous occasions. It hosts a weekly market and is adorned with sculptures by Timoner, Otero and Lucarini.
2000. Recently created green area, dedicated to honoring the memory of the Minorcan architect and landscape architect Nicolau Rubió i Tudurí. The park was born with a didactic vocation and as a permanent exhibition of native Menorcan flora.
