Cala de sa Torreta is situated at 14 kilometres from Maó, located between es Colomar and Punta de ses Àguiles. It belongs to the Àrea Natural d'Especial Interès de s'Albufera es Grau (70 hectares in area, and an average depth of 1,5 metres, very rich landscape with many species of flora and fauna, so that the Unesco declared Menorca Reserve of the Biosphere in 1993. The name of this beautiful virgin beach with sand is given by the defence tower with the same name (also known with the name of Tamarells, because of the nearby beach), which rises on the headland of es Colomar, at a distance of 750 metres from Cala de sa Torreta. The marine and underwater conditions for anchoring boats are not safe, although this cove is sheltered by Cap de Mossèn Vives. Nevertheless this coastal corner belongs to the stretch between s'Illa ('island') de Colom and Cap de Favàritx or Punta de Capifort, two and a half nautical miles of high coast, irregular and stony, so that navigation in this area is difficult, due to the fact that it is full of flagstones, sandbanks and reefs. The small coves and sea inlets that you can find here and there between Punta de Fra Bernat (south) and Cap de Mossèn Vives, have natural obstacles that make the access to the sea difficult. These characteristics explain that the beach is not very crowded by local visitors and tourists. The few visitors that reach this cove come on the seaway, although it is difficult. You can also reach this coastal stretch on foot from Cala des Grau. Information about this beach may change. The beach is sandy, it has a sea promenade, it is exposed to the winds from the southwest-west, a gentle breeze, calm water, a gentle slope and it is not too crowded by local visitors and tourists (families). The marine and underwater conditions for anchoring boats are good. The entrance of this sea inlet is between 50 and 80 metres large and it has a sandy ground, located at about seven metres of depth, which gets lower until the coast. Cala en Calderer or Cala Calderer is situated at nine kilometres from es Mercadal, located between the Punta with the same name and Cala Moragues. This coastal stretch is the border between the municipalities of Ferreries and es Mercadal, and this is why half beach belongs to each municipality. This virgin, isolated and quiet beach has no facilities and it is not crowded at all. It is the result of a sea inlet which is the origin of a shell-shaped beach with sand, rocks and seaweed. The size is quite small (only 70 metres long). It is located between the slopes of the green hills of Penyes de Son Ermità (eastern end), which is an Àrea Natural d'Especial Interès of the northern coast of Menorca. The marine and underwater conditions for anchoring boats are only excellent in a small beach which is located in the eastern area. The accessibility to this isolated beach is complicated and difficult. The visitor has to reach the fork of Son Ermità. Here you can park your private car and continue on foot on the track you will find on the right side. From this point until Cala Calderer you will have to walk for 2,5 kilometres, passing though the hills and finca Son Ermità. On the right side of Cala Calderer there is a track that leads to Cala Barril, after walking for 1,2 kilometres, from where you can see Illa Bledes. When the beach has a lifeguard service, you must follow the lifeguards' instructions and the warnings on flags. Cala en Cavaller is situated at 15 kilometres from Maó, located between Morro de sa Falconera and Cap de Mossèn Vives. This virgin and beautiful beach is the result of a sea inlet that is the origin of this gravel area which is about 40 metres long. It is surrounded by the hills that reach the sea. These rocks are quite high, they have a green cover of bushes and scrubland, which reach the coastline. The marine and underwater conditions for anchoring boats are not safe, although this cove is sheltered by Cap de Mossèn Vives. Cala Pedrera or Padera is situated at one kilometre from the centre of Es Castell de Menorca (founded by the English with the name of Georgetown), located between Punta de Sant Carles and Cales Fonts, surrounded by the villages of Sol de l'Est and Santa Ana, as well as in the interior of the beautiful and spectacularly deep sea inlet (more than three nautical miles) of the Port de Maó. This small bathing are is u-shaped and it is characterized by being protected from the swell by the Illa de Llatzaret (where there is a fortress which was still used in 1917, where the crews and goods were kept in quarantine against possible epidemies). The marine and underwater conditions for anchoring boats are good, because it is in the interior of Port de Maó, one of the safest port infrastructures and one of the most appreciated by the navigators of the Mediterranean Sea, where all types of boats can be found (maximum draught of 30 metres). Cala Sant Esteve is situated at 2,5 kilometres from Es Castell de Menorca, surrounded by the Port Malborough (built by the English between 1710 and 1716) and Castell de Sant Felip (very important in the 18th century for the defence of the Port de Maó), as well as located between Torre d'en Penjat (at 150 metres above the sea level, with conic structure, a tower of three levels and beautiful panoramic views) and Punta de Sant Carles, where there is Far de Maó and the access to the port with the same name. It is a big s-shaped sea inlet which goes toward west for a long distance, is the origin of this bathing area with no sand or rocks, with a steep slope (very near the coast it is already deep). There are lots of summer residences in the surroundings, as well as a large number of small boats anchored along the sinuous coastline. This bathing area has an orientation toward northeast and the wind is moderate, so that the swell is strong. Nevertheless the beach is not too crowded by local visitors and tourists. The marine and underwater conditions for anchoring boats are good, although the manoeuvre is difficult due to the large number of boats anchored in the interior. The navigator must know that in the southern area and in the entrance there is a flagstone, known as Llosa de sa Punta de Migjorn. In the surroundings there are lots of fishers. Cala Torta is situated at 10 kilometres from es Mercadal, located between Punta de sa Torre and des Vernís. From its coast you can see far away the Illa des Porros. This bathing area is the result of a shell shaped sea inlet, quite small, with no vegetation in the surroundings and with a steep and abrupt coast. The headland that separates Cala Torta from Port de Sanitja includes Torre de Sanitha, a defence tower which rises 15 metres above the sea level. This fortress is not very well preserved nowadays because of the erosion of the sea and the wind. This conic structure with octagonal form was built with stones, mortar and marès. At a small distance from Torre de Sanitja you can still find another smaller construction. This might have been used by the guard. The marine and underwater conditions for anchoring boats are good, because it is very sheltered with a depth that reaches nine metres. In the proximity of Punta des Vernís there is s'Escull d'en Vernís, the strait is very dangerous. Information about this beach may change.
