Platja de Binissafúller, Cala Binissafúller or Binissafua is situated at 5,5 kilometres from Sant Lluís (in this municipality it is still possible to walk on narrow tracks around places like Torret or s'Ullastrar, which are unspoilt), located between Caló Blanc and Caló fondo, as well as next to the village with the same name and near the residential area of Binibeca Vell. From its coast you can see s'Illot de Binissafúller. This beach is the result of a sinuous, narrow u-shaped sea inlet with a rocky low coast. It is also characterized by being very small, it is not very crowded by local visitors and tourists, and it has been developed on the left side. It has a sandy area, artificially extended with sand from the marine ground, it is exposed to the swell and the wind from the southeast and southwest, it has a sandy ground with seaweed on the sides, a gentle slope which makes bathing in the calm crystal clear water easy. The marine and underwater conditions for diving are good. If the navigator wants to anchor outside the bay he has to keep an eye on the flagstone known as Llosa d'enmig ('in the middle') nearly emerging in the afternoon with total calm. The accessibility by car is easy following the signs and the deviations. The private car can be left on a free parking area in the surroundings. The present Maó Town Hall building, popularly known as La Sala, is located in the same place as the former Universitat, the organ of local government until 1835. From the mid-14th century Maó was a municipality or Universitat, albeit dependent on the General Universitat of Menorca, based in Ciutadella. For many years the Universitat of Maó did not have its own headquarters. At an undefined moment a modest building was built to house the municipal institution in Carrer Nou, and in 1613 it moved to its current location, near the parish Church of Santa Maria. Of the original building only the structure of the cellars and part of the distribution of the ground floor remain, due to the comprehensive alterations carried out in the late 18th century, which resulted in today’s building. The increasing military and economic importance of Maó throughout the 17th century and above all in the 18th century was paralleled in politics. In 1640 the Universitat of Maó managed to free itself of the tutelage of the General Universitat of Menorca. Under British rule, the Universitat General was rendered totally inoperative. As a result, although Ciutadella continued to be the capital of Menorca in name, in practice the Universitat of Maó became the most influential municipality on the island. In 1788, during the Spanish era, the Universitat of Maó wished to have a headquarters worthy of its importance, and the military engineer Francisco Fernández de Angulo was commissioned to renovate the building. The most striking element is the southern façade, characterized by three large archways that led to a large vestibule. The clock tower, which was brought here from London in 1731 by order of the British governor Richard Kane, rises up over the central archway. The lateral façade is divided into different sections delimited by pilasters. Highlights of the top floor are the original ox eye windows and the coat of arms of Spain which finishes the axis of the lateral façade.
Platja de ses Salines is situated at seven kilometres from es Mercadal, located in the interior of Badia de Fornells (protected as Àrea Natural d'Especial Interès where the fishers know the best places for the prized menorcan lobster), between Cala Blanca and the port, as well as next to the village with the same name. From its coast you can see Illot Ravells and Illa Sargantana. This sandy coastal stretch is more than one kilometre long. There are residential houses at the rear, which reach the coastline. In the summer it is very crowded by local visitors and tourists. Near this coastal corner there is Trompetera, a sandy area which is 250 metres long and which is normally frequented by families. Small boats and people who like water sports, especially windsurfers, share this coastal stretch with the swimmers. The fact that this beach is located in a wide closed bay makes it very popular for learning safely all types of sailing. The large size of the Badia de Fornells allow the navigator to follow the coast and see places like Cala Blanca, l'Era, Illot des Porros, Cala Cabra Celada, s'Arenalet or Racó d'en Coeta. The proximity to the village of Fornells invites you to visit this beautiful fishing port and to try the lobster stew. The accessibility by car is easy following the signs and the deviations. The private car can be left on a free parking area in the surroundings. Information about this beach may change. Absolutely amazing journey, I have walked it 7 times
One of the most characteristic defences of the Island, it was used to warn the inhabitants of the impending arrival of invading Moors. Carretera Cala Morell The tower can only be visited from the road behind the fence.
Cala Barril is situated at 12 kilometres from es Mercadal, located between the Punta with the same name and Cala Calderer. In front of its coast you can see illes 8 des Colom and Bledes (Zona de Especial Protección para las Aves). This isolated virgin beach has no facilities and it is not very crowded, it is the result of a sea inlet which is the origin of a circular beach with reddish sand, pebbles and some seaweed. It is not very big (70 metres long). It is located between cliffs, with a green cover, from the adjacent hills which belong to Àrea Natural d'Especial Interès of the menorcan north coast. The marine and underwater conditions for anchoring boats are not good. There are three islands, Illes Bledes, with a maximum height of 60 metres above the sea level on this archipelago. You are recommended to avoid navigation in the strait between these islands and the coast of Menorca, because there are sandbanks and reefs on the ground. This fact explains that Cala Barril is dirty and there are stones, which go from the south of Illa des Coloms, and close the entrance even for small boats. These characteristics explain that the beach is not very crowded by local visitors and tourists. The visitors who reach this coast come on the seaway or on the trails that join the isolated coves Pregonda (with an interesting system of dunes) and Calderer. When the beach has a lifeguard service, you must follow the lifeguards' instructions and the warnings on flags. A red flag indicates dangerous swimming conditions and means that swimming is not permitted. A yellow flag indicates that precaution must be taken, but that swimming is permitted. A green flag indicates that swimming is permitted. An orange flag is used to indicate that the lifeguard is absent. Act cautiously when no lifeguard is present or the service is not available and enjoy the beach without taking any unnecessary risks. For health and safety reasons, the municipal ordinances ban pets on beaches. Information about this beach may change. Cala Carbó is situated at 13 kilometres from Ciutadella and it is not an official beach, located between Cap de Ferro and Punta Roja (there are some reefs in the surroundings). Cap de Ferro has several layers. The strength of the air and sea currents gave it an aspect similar to an old warrior. This isolated virgin sea inlet is characterized by being u-shaped, it is not very big, the vegetation is rare in the surroundings (it is surrounded by dark rocks of the hills of Bassa Verda ''green lake'-), the beach has pebbles, it is exposed to the winds from the north-southwest-northwest, a gentle breeze, a calm water, and a normal slope. The marine and underwater conditions for anchoring boats are not safe in front of its coast. The best anchorage is in the adjacent big bay of ses Fontanelles. This bay is sheltered from the winds from the second and third quadrants, and it is deep enough to anchor. Nevertheless you are recommended to only navigate along the north coast of Menorca if the sea is calm because it is difficult to find a safe shelter from the strong wind in this area.
