Caleta d'en Gorries

Caleta d'en Gorries or sa Caleta is situated at two kilometres from Ciutadella, located between Torre des Castellar (coastal defence tower of the 18th century where you have excellent panoramic views) and Cala Santandria, as well as next to the village of Cala Santandria. This coastal corner is located on the right side of the entrance of Cala Santandria (northern and north-eastern area), and the name caleta is given by the very small size. This sea inlet is characterized by having residential houses in the surroundings, it has a sandy beach and the coast is abrupt, the rocks are not very high, with vegetation on the top, it is exposed to the winds from the southwest-west, a gentle breeze, the water is calm, clean and transparent, and the slope is gentle. It is quite crowded by local visitors and tourists. The marine and underwater conditions for anchoring small boats are good. The navigator is recommended to anchor in the nearby Cala Santandria (two hectometres large in the entrance and seven hectometres long, as well as located at 3,5 nautical miles from Cap ''cape'- d'Artrutx, which is exposed to the wind from the west, but sheltered from the rest of the winds, with a sandy ground, and no dangerous sandbanks, where you can even anchor next to the coast. The accessibility by car is easy following the signs and the deviations. The private car can be left on a free parking area in the surroundings. You can also reach this beach with the public transport. When the beach has a lifeguard service, you must follow the lifeguards' instructions and the warnings on flags. A red flag indicates dangerous swimming conditions and means that swimming is not permitted. A yellow flag indicates that precaution must be taken, but that swimming is permitted. A green flag indicates that swimming is permitted. An orange flag is used to indicate that the lifeguard is absent. Act cautiously when no lifeguard is present or the service is not available and enjoy the beach without taking any unnecessary risks. For health and safety reasons, the municipal ordinances ban pets on beaches. This beach has received the 14001 environmental certification. Information about this beach may change.
