Facing the neoclassical Church of Carmen and the iconic Cloister del Carmen , is the Plaça del Carme, popularly known as the Placa del Mercat, an ideal which is installed during the summer the town's traditional craft market. CASA DEL COMTE DE TORRE-SAURA 1839, Ildefonso Hernández The most impressive of the palaces of Ciutadella, as much by its dimensions - it occupies three quarters of the block - like by its conception - is the most refined example of the civil neoclassic architecture. Occupying a privileged position in the Plaza del Born, in the mid-nineteenth century the old side facade of the original palace towards the Town Hall to align with the Salort Palace, just finished at that time, and the construction of A new wing that would give an updated image to the old structure. On the façade, the large arched doorway is not the entrance to the palace but is intended for carriage access. It is on the side located on Major Street where the main door is located, facing the one of the neighboring palace, which connects with the staircase that leads to the rooms on the first floor. It has an air Italianate Baroque facade, XVIII century with a large central balcony of wrought iron, which gives unity to what originally were the palaces and Squella Gomila, two noble families who joined by marriage. The facade has undergone several modifications. The last time you cleaned the facade were lost most of the paintings and the windows were restored by a craftsman, while attached to the sculptures were removed layers of green paint leaving them in natural stone. Inside you can see rooms that hosted Chippendale and Queen Anne furniture, a Santo Cristo invoice Ivory Italian bed with Horace Vernet paintings, a painting of St. Paul school attributed to Ribera and important collections of paintings and taxed the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
