Cala Morella Nou is situated at 15 kilometres from Maó, located between the capes de Mossén Vives and de ses Piques, and from its coast you can see s'Illot de ses Piques (at 280 metres from the coast, toward east-southeast). It belongs to the Àrea Natural d'Especial Interès de s'Albufera es Grau (70 hectares in area, and an average depth of 1,5 metres, very rich landscape with many species of flora and fauna, so that the Unesco declared Menorca Reserve of the Biosphere in 1993. This virgin beach has two coves, a sandy surface with gravel and it is 300 metres long, it is the result of a very open sea inlet which is also the origin of the beach d'en Tortuga and Capifort, aswell as s'Arenal de Morella. It is surrounded by the sides of the hills that reach the sea. These rocks are quite high and they have a green cover (scrubland and bushes). The marine and underwater conditions for anchoring boats are not good because the north and east coasts of Menorca are very unsafe. This is why the navigator who wants to reach this area should keep an eye on the weather forecast and the meteorological news. A change in the weather conditions can be very dangerous along this steep, abrupt coast with high cliffs. The accessibility by car is easy following the signs and the deviations until the proximity of Cap de Favàritx. The private car can be left on a free parking area in the surroundings. From there you have to walk on a track along the coast and pass some coves until you reach this beautiful beach. It is a 90 minutes walk. Information about this beach may change. Cala en Calderer or Cala Calderer is situated at nine kilometres from es Mercadal, located between the Punta with the same name and Cala Moragues. This coastal stretch is the border between the municipalities of Ferreries and es Mercadal, and this is why half beach belongs to each municipality. This virgin, isolated and quiet beach has no facilities and it is not crowded at all. It is the result of a sea inlet which is the origin of a shell-shaped beach with sand, rocks and seaweed. The size is quite small (only 70 metres long). It is located between the slopes of the green hills of Penyes de Son Ermità (eastern end), which is an Àrea Natural d'Especial Interès of the northern coast of Menorca. The marine and underwater conditions for anchoring boats are only excellent in a small beach which is located in the eastern area. The accessibility to this isolated beach is complicated and difficult. The visitor has to reach the fork of Son Ermità. Here you can park your private car and continue on foot on the track you will find on the right side. From this point until Cala Calderer you will have to walk for 2,5 kilometres, passing though the hills and finca Son Ermità. On the right side of Cala Calderer there is a track that leads to Cala Barril, after walking for 1,2 kilometres, from where you can see Illa Bledes. When the beach has a lifeguard service, you must follow the lifeguards' instructions and the warnings on flags. A red flag indicates dangerous swimming conditions and means that swimming is not permitted. A yellow flag indicates that precaution must be taken, but that swimming is permitted. A green flag indicates that swimming is permitted. An orange flag is used to indicate that the lifeguard is absent. Cala des Degollador or sa Platja Gran belongs to the urban coast of Ciutadella, at a 10 minutes walk from the square del Ajuntament, located between Port de Ciutadella (the second most important port in Menorca, after the infrastructure of Port de Maó) and Punta des Gegant, as well as surrounded by Castell de Sant Nicolau and the village of Son Oleo, and the town of Ciutadella, some metres south, as background. This sea inlet is characterized by its length (half a kilometre toward the interior), and by being very narrow, as well as by being quite small. The beach is sandy, it has a sea promenade, it is exposed to the winds from the southwest-west, a gentle breeze, calm water, a gentle slope and it is not too crowded by local visitors and tourists (families). Cala de sa Torreta is situated at 14 kilometres from Maó, located between es Colomar and Punta de ses Àguiles. The name of this beautiful virgin beach with sand is given by the defence tower with the same name (also known with the name of Tamarells, because of the nearby beach), which rises on the headland of es Colomar, at a distance of 750 metres from Cala de sa Torreta. The marine and underwater conditions for anchoring boats are not safe, although this cove is sheltered by Cap de Mossèn Vives. Nevertheless this coastal corner belongs to the stretch between s'Illa ('island') de Colom and Cap de Favàritx or Punta de Capifort, two and a half nautical miles of high coast, irregular and stony, so that navigation in this area is difficult, due to the fact that it is full of flagstones, sandbanks and reefs. The small coves and sea inlets that you can find here and there between Punta de Fra Bernat (south) and Cap de Mossèn Vives, have natural obstacles that make the access to the sea difficult. These characteristics explain that the beach is not very crowded by local visitors and tourists. The few visitors that reach this cove come on the seaway, although it is difficult. S'Arenalet is located at eight kilometres from es Mercadal, situated in the interior of Badia de Fornells (protected as Àrea Natural d'Especial Interès and where the fishers best know how to find the famous minorcan lobster), located between Cala Cabra Celada and Racó d'en Coeta, as well as below the Mola de Fornells, totally virgin. It is a beach with fine grained sand, isolated and quiet, due to the fact that it is nearly impossible to reach it on foot. Access on the seaway from Fornells is recommended. Cala Carbó is situated at 13 kilometres from Ciutadella and it is not an official beach, located between Cap de Ferro and Punta Roja (there are some reefs in the surroundings). Cap de Ferro has several layers. The strength of the air and sea currents gave it an aspect similar to an old warrior. This isolated virgin sea inlet is characterized by being u-shaped, it is not very big, the vegetation is rare in the surroundings (it is surrounded by dark rocks of the hills of Bassa Verda ''green lake'-), the beach has pebbles, it is exposed to the winds from the north-southwest-northwest, a gentle breeze, a calm water, and a normal slope. The marine and underwater conditions for anchoring boats are not safe in front of its coast. The best anchorage is in the adjacent big bay of ses Fontanelles. This bay is sheltered from the winds from the second and third quadrants, and it is deep enough to anchor. Nevertheless you are recommended to only navigate along the north coast of Menorca if the sea is calm because it is difficult to find a safe shelter from the strong wind in this area. When the beach has a lifeguard service, you must follow the lifeguards' instructions and the warnings on flags. A red flag indicates dangerous swimming conditions and means that swimming is not permitted. A yellow flag indicates that precaution must be taken, but that swimming is permitted.
